Parking and entry is free, and the paid activities and concessions are reasonable.  That is attractive to one local woman who brought her grandchildren Columbus Day weekend to pick out a pumpkin and see the animals.

“We looked at all the pumpkins and we went down a bunch of slides and teeter totter and fed the ducks,” said Carrie Anderson from Smyrna.  “It is a good time.. a lot of fun.”

Anderson added that Walden Farm is real close and convenient and affordable.  The venue is located at 8653 Rocky Fork Road, just four miles east of Nolensville in Smyrna.

The pumpkin patch is open to the public on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 3 to 6:30 p.m., all day Saturday, and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday until Oct, 31.

Heather Walden said this is the 13th year the farm has been open for the six-week period leading up to Halloween so visitors can buy their fall harvest and take part in the many activities that make the event attractive to families.

“From the very beginning we’ve wanted it to be a place for families to come,” Walden said. She said 22 Walden family members work on the premises to make the event as enjoyable as possible for the public.

Walden said her family gets a lot of joy showing people what farm life is like and improving the attraction each year.  This year the farm added the Ole Country Store as its newest attraction.

“So we have a lot of our fall decorating items and Halloween carving kits, old-fashioned candies, the jams and jellies, the Walden Farm honey – we do have bees on the farm.  So that honey is local honey,” Walden said.

The fall harvest available includes pumpkins, gourds, Indian corn, straw and other items.  The Walden Farm Cookbook is available in the Old Country Store. For more information about visiting the pumpkin patch, visit http://www.waldenfarm.biz.
